Company setup insight
Mainland or Free Zone? Start with the operating model.
The UAE Government treats mainland and free-zone business setup as distinct routes administered through different authorities. That makes the right comparison less about a headline package and more about what the business will actually do.
Business activity
Confirm that the proposed activity is permitted by the relevant authority and whether additional approvals apply.
Operating model
Map where customers, staff, suppliers and day-to-day operations will actually be located before choosing the licence route.
Premises and facilities
Check whether an office, warehouse, flexi-desk or other facility is required for the activity, authority or visa plan.
Legal form and ownership
Compare the legal forms available for the activity and authority rather than assuming every structure is interchangeable.
Ongoing obligations
Consider renewals, tax, accounting, audit, immigration and sector-specific compliance alongside initial formation cost.
Official starting point
Use the relevant authority as the source of truth.
The UAE Government maintains separate official guidance for doing business on the mainland and in free zones. Requirements can differ by emirate, free zone, activity and legal form, so current authority guidance should be checked before acting.
